What was the inspiration behind your kit’s design? Is there a particular story behind it?
The design of our kit is closely tied to our philosophy and the gorilla symbol, which represents the strength and endurance needed to tackle an Ironman. The choice of the gorilla as our logo arose in the summer of 2016, during an Ironman in Sweden, when Paolo, running alongside an athlete he had coached, noticed a series of signs depicting a gorilla accompanied by motivational quotes. The first sign read: “Doing an Ironman is like fighting a gorilla.” The second: “You can’t stop when you’re tired.” And finally, the third concluded: “You can only stop when the gorilla is tired.” From these quotes, initially unexpected, a powerful source of inspiration was born. The gorilla metaphor has thus become part of our identity: it represents the strength and determination to overcome challenges, both in competition and in life.
Gorillaz Ironteam isn’t just a team, it’s a movement and a conscious approach to sport. Led by Paolo Barbera and centered on personal growth, the team inspires athletes of all levels to find strength and motivation within themselves. Every challenge is a battle against their inner “gorilla,” a battle that teaches them to always give their all, both inside and outside of competition.
